Did you know you can tether your smart phone to your PC for instant Internet access on the fly?  Tethering can save you in a bind–whether you have to attach that large file and email it or transfer funds from your bank.  But be warned–Tethering is normally NOT free and NOT including in your data plan!

So how do you tether?  Read below to get the info you need to stay truly mobile! 

BlackBerry

To tether your blackberry, you need the usb cable that came with your phone and software.  If you have AT&T, go here for the software.  Verizon users go here.  Download and install the software.  Call your cell phone provider and ask that they add tethering to your account.  Connect your blackberry to the cable and the cable to your PC.  Click on connect and you are rockin!

iPhone (Requires OS 3.1 or higher)

 


 


 

Set up a tethering connection: 




In Settings, choose General > Network > Internet Tethering.

Slide the Internet Tethering switch to On.

 


Connect iPhone to your computer:  On a Mac, a pop-up windows appears the first time you connect, saying “A new network interface has been detected.”  Click Network Preferences, configure the network settings for iPhone, then click Apply.  On a PC, use the Network Control panel to configure the iPhone connection.  When you’re connected, a blue band appears at the top of the screen.  Tethering remains on when you connect with USB, even when you aren’t actively using the Internet connection.

 


 


 

Monitor your cellular data network usage: 

 




In Settings, choose General > Usage.

Droid

What you’ll need:

  1. USB Driver – Download
  2. Tethering Software – [PDANet] Download (Full  version costs $29, onetime)

Step 1.First, Install PDANet software on your desktop and Phone. The moment you install it on desktop, it will automatically install the USB driver for you, if it doesn’t, you can use the USB driver above to install.

Step 2.Make sure you have USB Debugging still enabled. Connect your Droid to the USB and on  phone, launch the PDANet software. Click on “Turn PdaNet On“.

Step 3.Once it is turned on, you can then go to your PC and “Connect” on the PDANet software on your taskbar. You are done, You have Tethered Droid successfully, enjoy the High speed wireless Internet.

Step 4. (Optional, only for Bluetooth) If you need Bluetooth Tethering, first thing you need to do is pair your phone with your PC via bluetooth connection.

Step 5.Once successful, create a Dial-up Networking Connection (DUN). When asked what modem to use, select the Bluetooth Modem Driver. It will ask you for a username and password, select you won’t need to use one. It will ask you to for a phone number to use to dial out. Use “123″ as the phone number.
